Mexico's Velas Resorts Introduces the ‘Detox Concierge’

Freeing guests from the minute-to-minute stresses associated with technology, the new Digital Detox program at Mexico's Grand Velas Resorts in Riviera Maya and Riviera Nayarit wants to inspire families and couples to kick off the new year on the right foot by providing a different kind of vacation experience––one that invites them to power down, disconnect from the world and focus on enjoying quality time with one another.

What separates Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit from the digital detox pack? Simple. Meet their Detox Concierge. When guests arrive at the resort, the concierge is tasked with the all-important duty of “cleansing” their suite by removing the flat screen television from the room, replacing it with classic board games and then whisking away their personal electronic devices (phone, laptop, iPad, PSP, etc.) to a safe.

At Grand Velas Riviera Maya, guests opting to participate in the digital detox program can trade-in their electronics for complimentary activities. Guests are given a bracelet in exchange for their electronics that guarantees them access to the following activities:

• Bike tour
• Ecological tour of the property's flora and fauna
• Snorkeling tour
• Facials and massages at one of the five best spas in Latin America

They must earn a total of four activity bracelets (one for each day of the detox) in order to receive their electronics back.

In addition to the bracelets, couples and families will be sporting a t-shirt that reads: “We are digital detoxing,” and will have a timer placed in the lobby that features the family's last name and the time that they have already detoxed.

Guests at both resorts can take advantage of the resorts' complimentary roster of activities such as yoga, kayaking, picnic on the beach and campfire sessions.

All-inclusive rates include luxury suite accommodations, à la carte gourmet meals at a variety of specialty restaurants, premium branded beverages, 24-hour in-suite service, fitness center, taxes, gratuity and more. Nightly rates start at $355 at Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit and $393 at Grand Velas Riviera Maya. Rates are per person per night based in double occupancy.
