Nemacolin Woodlands Resort Announces New Shepherd's Rock Golf Course
The new layout will significantly enhance Nemacolin's reputation as a premier golf destination as it will join the celebrated Dye-designed Mystic Rock course, former home of the PGA TOUR's 84 Lumber Classic and ranked in the top-60 in Golf Digest's “America's 100 Greatest Public Courses.” Dye, along with noted architect Tim Liddy, are currently putting the final touches on Shepherd's Rock.

High atop the Allegheny Mountains, the 7,142-yard Shepherd's Rock course will offer extraordinary golf in a spectacular setting. The rolling bucolic terrain is ideal to fully utilize Dye's brilliant imagination in fashioning a routing sure to draw raves from both media and guests. The layout is expected to rival the highest-rated courses in the country and be a perfect companion to Mystic Rock.

The tree-lined 3,306-yard front side of Shepherd's Rock will be a shotmaker's delight as precision and accuracy will be key to successfully navigating its rippling fairways flanked by the ever-present Dye-created mounds, natural wetlands and cleverly situated greens. Ball positioning on the opening nine will be crucial for a good start.

The stout 3,836-yard back nine is brawny and wide open with jaw-dropping vistas of the Laurel Highlands and ample landing areas off the tee. The dramatic par-5 18th, under the gaze of Nemacolin's Five-Diamond Falling Rock boutique hotel, figures to be one of the great finishes in the game with a green sitting atop the property's high ground and a single, magnificent oak tree standing sentinel on the right. Shepherd's Rock will provide plenty of challenge and fun for players of all abilities.

In addition to Mystic Rock and Shepherd's Rock, the Nemacolin Golf Academy offers an array of game improvement programming including: individual lessons, TrackMan® ball flight and V-1 Video swing analysis, one- and three-day golf schools, and one of the leading club-fitting centers on the East Coast. A commitment to growing the game also abounds, with numerous junior and family golf options.

Earlier this year, Nemacolin added two of the top names in the golf industry leading up to the opening of Shepherd's Rock. Mike Jones, director of golf and recreation, comes to Nemacolin from Hawaii's Kapalua Resort, one of the top golf resorts in the world. Director of instruction Eric Johnson, one GOLF Magazine's “Top 100 teachers in America,” arrived at Nemacolin just days after his former course, Oakmont Country Club, hosted the U.S. Open.
