New Zealand's Shotover Jet to Host Duke and Duchess of Cambridge
London's Kensington Palace officially announced details of the Royal visit today (Monday March 3). The 10-day New Zealand tour includes a visit to Queenstown on the afternoon of Sunday April 13, during which time the Royal couple will experience a jet boat trip on Shotover Jet, renowned as ‘The World's Most Exciting Jet Boat Ride'.

The multi tourism award-winning attraction is owned and operated by Ngai Tahu Tourism, and is respected as one of New Zealand's leading tourism innovators.

Shotover Jet has thrilled over three million people since 1970 when tourism operators started using jet boats powered by a revolutionary waterjet system invented by legendary New Zealander Sir William (Bill) Hamilton.

Ngai Tahu Tourism Southern Regional Manager David Kennedy said the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge would enjoy a trip in the latest technology V8-powered ‘Big Red', specifically designed to handle the world-famous Shotover River Canyons, capable of speeds up to 85kph in as little as 10cm of water and delivering full 360° spins and beyond.

“The Royal couple are known for their love of the outdoors and sports, so we think they'll really enjoy the chance to experience a world-leading Queenstown adventure tourism operation,” said Mr Kennedy.

“In the Duke's case, as a helicopter pilot we believe he'll certainly appreciate the advanced technology coupled with Kiwi ingenuity that makes our jet boats special.

“Above everything else this is a fun and exciting adrenalin ride that has already thrilled more than three million passengers, from movie stars to heads of state and travellers from around the globe.

“We're absolutely thrilled and delighted to take the Royal couple for a spin on a trip we're sure they'll remember as part of their New Zealand tour.”
